After finishing a long period of traveling around Southeast Asia, I returned to everyday life in Seoul.
While traveling, especially during my month-long stays in Chiang Mai, I often used coworking spaces. After that, however, I mostly worked from cafés whenever I needed to write or use my laptop outside home.
Through the Monthler app, I received a two-hour pass to DESKER Lounge Hongdae, a coworking space in Hongdae for remote workers, freelancers and creators, so I decided to spend part of my day working there while exploring the neighborhood.
I had previously visited a DESKER workspace during a one-week stay in Busan in 2025, which made me curious about what the Hongdae location would be like.

DESKER describes the Hongdae lounge as a space where people can work, connect and find new ideas rather than simply renting a desk. A Coworking Space in Hongdae Built for Focused Work
The workspace itself is simple and uncluttered.
There is a long communal desk as well as individual desks arranged more like a library.
I found the individual chairs more comfortable, but I preferred sitting at the large desk because the open layout felt less enclosed.

For travelers searching for a coworking space in Seoul, the difference between this kind of workspace and a regular café is easy to notice.
I did not need to worry about whether I was occupying a café table for too long, and the entire space was designed around working rather than eating or socializing.

During my visit, the current rates were KRW 12,000 for 2 hours, KRW 18,000 for 4 hours, and KRW 36,000 for a full-day pass.
A 30-minute extension costs KRW 3,000. Prices may change, so check the latest booking information before visiting.
Books and Creative Inspiration
One reason I enjoy working outside home is that changing my surroundings often helps me concentrate differently.
DESKER Lounge Hongdae also has shelves filled with books and curated reading material.
If I had stayed longer, I would have spent some time browsing the shelves.
Instead, I ended up writing four pieces during my two-hour session, so the time passed much faster than expected.
For writers, bloggers and online creators, this combination of workspace and reading material gives the lounge more personality than a standard shared office.
Free Snacks and Drinks at DESKER Lounge Hongdae
The refreshments were one of my favorite parts of the visit.
During my visit, drinks and snacks were included in the lounge.
There was decaf coffee, which immediately caught my attention because I usually avoid regular coffee.
I also found different kinds of tea, including ginger tea, along with drinks, soy milk and almond milk.

The snack section had more variety than I expected.
There were madeleines, waffles, chestnuts and nuts, and an oven was available for warming some of the pastries.
My own combination was simple: chestnuts, a madeleine and decaf coffee.
For someone who only needs a few hours of focused work, having both the workspace and refreshments included made the experience feel more worthwhile.
Snack selections may change, so I would not expect exactly the same choices on every visit.
DESKER Lounge Hongdae Amenities and Relaxation Area
There is also a separate lounge area where visitors can step away from their desks.

This was one of the spaces I liked most.
Coworking does not have to mean sitting in the same chair continuously for several hours. Being able to move to a sofa, have a drink and then return to work makes a longer session more comfortable.
The overall atmosphere felt more relaxed than a conventional office but more work-focused than a typical Hongdae café.
A Laptop-Friendly Workspace in Hongdae for Remote Work
When I have to travel a long distance across Seoul, I sometimes leave my laptop at home because of the weight.
Instead, I use my phone with a folding Bluetooth keyboard.
That was enough for the writing I needed to do during this visit.

It is a setup I have used while traveling as well.
For blogging, drafting articles or handling simple online work, I do not always need a full laptop.
This also makes places like DESKER Lounge useful for travelers who want to combine sightseeing in Seoul with a few hours of remote work.
Where to Stay in Hongdae for Remote Work
If you are visiting Seoul rather than living here, another practical option is to stay somewhere that combines accommodation with spaces designed for working.
Local Stitch Creator Town Seogyo is located in the Hongdae and Seogyo area and operates as a combination of accommodation, coliving and coworking space.
Its official information describes coworking areas, shared facilities, restaurants, cafés and other lifestyle spaces within the building.
Klook currently lists facilities including Wi-Fi, a fitness center and coworking-related communal facilities, and guest reviews frequently mention its location between Hongdae and Mangwon.
I did not stay at Local Stitch during this DESKER visit, so I am including it as an accommodation option rather than a personal hotel review.

DESKER Lounge or a Cafe in Hongdae?
Hongdae has no shortage of cafés.
For a short break, meeting a friend or having dessert, I would still choose a café.
But the purpose is different when I need to complete several hours of concentrated work.
At DESKER Lounge, I did not have to think about ordering another drink or whether my table was suitable for working. The desks, chairs, power outlets and atmosphere were all intended for people who had come to work.
For me, that is the main advantage of paying for a dedicated coworking space.
Is DESKER Lounge a Good Coworking Space in Hongdae?
For my style of remote work, DESKER Lounge Hongdae worked well because I could focus for two hours without relying on a busy café.
I managed to write four pieces during a two-hour session, had decaf coffee and snacks, and could take a break in the lounge without leaving the building.
It would be particularly useful for:
- Digital nomads staying in Seoul
- Freelancers and remote workers
- Writers and content creators
- Travelers who need a workspace for a few hours
- Anyone searching for a laptop-friendly place in Hongdae
If your priority is sightseeing, there is no reason to spend part of a short Seoul trip inside a coworking space.
But if you need to balance travel with remote work, a dedicated coworking space in Hongdae can be much more comfortable than trying to work from whichever café happens to have an empty table.
I would use DESKER Lounge Hongdae again when I need a few focused hours away from home.
