Looking for Tongyeong accommodation with a harbor view? I stayed at Local Stitch overlooking Gangguan Harbor for three nights in May 2025. This review covers my room, shared workspaces, laundry facilities and the drawbacks I experienced.

During a month-long stay in Tongyeong supported by a local government travel program, I stayed at Hotel Pico and Hansan Hotel before moving to Local Stitch for the harbor view. As a travel writer, I wanted somewhere I could work on my manuscripts while looking out over the water.

There were also international guests staying here during my visit. However, this review focuses on my own experience rather than the availability of English-language services.

This review reflects my stay in May 2025. Rates, facilities and access arrangements may have changed.

The harbor view was the main reason I booked this room.

1. Local Stitch Tongyeong: Location and Quick Guide

Local Stitch stands directly in front of Gangguan Harbor, making it convenient for waterfront walks. The host’s accommodation listing also describes its location as being in Tongyeong’s old city center.

Here are the details of my stay:

  • Address: 301 Tongyeonghaean-ro, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea
  • Room booked: Stitch Double Gangguan
  • Stay: Three nights in May 2025
  • What I paid: KRW 280,000 in total through Airbnb
  • Access during my visit: Stairs to my third-floor room, with no elevator

I had a large 28-inch suitcase, so I called before arriving to ask whether someone could help carry it upstairs. If you are traveling with heavy luggage or have difficulty using stairs, check the access arrangements before booking.

During my stay, construction was taking place on the first and second floors. I had hoped to visit the café and lounge there, but those areas were unavailable at the time.

2. My Harbor View Room at Local Stitch

My room had a simple interior, with blue flooring, a bed, a desk and a bathtub within the main room area. The large windows were its strongest feature.

During the day, I could look out over Gangguan Harbor while working. After dark, the waterfront lights gave the room a different atmosphere. I kept taking photos of the view throughout my stay.

However, there was an unpleasant smell in my room. I could not identify the source, and the diffuser did not fully mask it. This was one of the main drawbacks of my stay.

The room also had a bathtub, which I used on my first evening. I opened the window with the insect screen in place to ventilate the room.

Because the windows were large, I lowered the blinds for privacy while bathing. In practice, I did not feel comfortable enjoying the harbor view from the bathtub with the blinds open.

3. Shared Workspaces at Local Stitch Tongyeong

The shared workspaces were useful when I wanted a change from working in my room.

On my second day, I spent much of the day writing at the accommodation rather than going out. Later, when the room began to feel confining, I moved into a common area to continue working on my manuscript.

For travelers combining sightseeing with remote work, having somewhere else to sit with a laptop can be helpful. I appreciated being able to move between my room and the communal spaces.

I used the shared spaces for writing, but I did not test the Wi-Fi speed. If you need to make video calls, ask the property about the connection before booking.

I also worked on my manuscript in the communal workspace.

4. Laundry and a Shared Kitchen for Longer Stays

Laundry was another practical advantage. During my stay, I could use the washing machines and dryers free of charge.

At my previous accommodation, I had spent KRW 10,000 doing laundry at a nearby laundromat. Being able to wash and dry my clothes here was especially welcome during a longer trip.

I also used the communal kitchen to eat a simple dinner of microwave rice and side dishes my sisters had given me. Having a place for an easy meal made it less necessary to eat out every evening.

These everyday facilities mattered to me as much as the view. When you stay in one city for several weeks, laundry, meals and work become part of the trip.

5. Is Local Stitch Tongyeong Worth Staying At?

Local Stitch worked well for my mix of writing, resting and walking around Gangguan Harbor. The waterfront view was memorable, and the shared workspaces, kitchen and laundry facilities made my three-night stay more practical.

However, the drawbacks were clear. Carrying luggage upstairs required planning, the room had an unpleasant smell, and traffic noise came in from the road outside.

Although the indoor spaces felt quiet during my visit, my room was not completely peaceful. One morning, road noise woke me before 7 a.m.

If you are deciding where to stay in Tongyeong, Local Stitch is worth considering for its Gangguan Harbor view and shared facilities. If you are sensitive to noise or smells, or need elevator access, ask specific questions about your room before booking.

My takeaway: Local Stitch offered a memorable Gangguan Harbor view and useful facilities for a working stay, but stairs, room odor and road noise were part of my experience.

Before reserving, confirm the room’s view, access arrangements and current shared-facility policies.
